GREENSBORO, N.C. - Randolph-Macon junior Jordan Witherow (Mechanicsville, Va./Lee-Davis) won the 500 Free on Day 1 of the 2018 ODAC Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
The Yellow Jackets are second out of nine schools after the first of three days of competition.
Witherow finished first in the 500 Free in 4:44.10, his top time of the season and the fastest time in the ODAC this season.
In the 400 Medley Relay, Witherow teamed with junior Bryan McCarthy (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale), senior Alex Daube (Hampton, Va./Hampton) and senior Ealon Mann (Spartanburg, S.C./Spartanburg) to place second in 3:37.93, a top time for the Yellow Jackets this season.
Freshman Victor Kontopanos (North Chesterfield, Va.) took second in the 200 IM in 1:54.55, his top time this season. Kontopanos joined sophomore Matt Howard (Fredericksburg, Va./James Monroe), Daube and Mann to finish second in the 200 Free Relay in 1:27.43, a top time for the Yellow Jackets this season.
Mann was sixth in the 50 Free in 21.67. He posted a top time in preliminaries in 21.50.
Junior Sam Runner (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) was seventh in the 500 Free in 4:56.04, his top time this season. McCarthy was eighth in the 500 Free in 4:59.30.
Senior Ivan Fadeyev (Manassas, Va./Osbourn Park) took eighth in the 200 IM in 2:00.36.
Day 2 preliminaries begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday with finals starting at 6 p.m.
