Tennis Competes in First Home Match with St. Mary’s and Virginia Union

ASHLAND, Va--- R-MC defeated Virginia Union, 8-0 on Saturday afternoon.  The Yellow Jackets dropped their late match to St. Mary's, 8-1. 

The Yellow Jackets opened the day by sweeping crosstown rival Virginia Union in each event.  Mederick Ceril, Chandler Weston, and Brian Sommer all topped their opponents 6-0 in two sets to help record the victory.  Ceril and Weston and Ira Usry and Connor Hoerr teamed to take both doubles matches as well.

In the second match, R-MC fell to St. Mary's 8-0.  Mederick, the Yellow Jackets one seed, opened the match taking two sets, 6-3 and 6-1 to record the only win of the match for R-MC.

On the women's side, the Yellow Jackets fell to St. Mary's 9-0 and VUU 8-1.  Chelsey Jones picked up the only victory of the day for the R-MC women.

Randolph-Macon is back in action March 2nd when the men and women both travel to Washington and Lee.
