Bruce Myers '93 Named Director of Tennis at Randolph-Macon College

ASHLAND, VA -- Randolph-Macon College Director of Athletics Jeff Burns announced Tuesday the hiring of 1993 graduate Bruce Myers as the new Director of Tennis for the Yellow Jackets.

Myers is the first full-time tennis coach in school history and will oversee both the men's and women's teams and will handle all operations of R-MC's Tennis Facility.  Myers returns to Ashland after spending last season as an assistant coach for the women's team at Immaculata University.

"I'm pleased to have Bruce return to Ashland to head our tennis programs as they enter a very exciting time in its history," said Burns. "Bruce's experience as both a player, coach and his familiarity with the R-MC program makes him an ideal person to lead the program during this crucial stage, which has seen the building of a state of the art facility, allowing us to attract some of the best student-athletes."

During his time as a Yellow Jacket, he was a three-year captain. He earned All-ODAC First Team honors in 1992 and 1993 in singles.

"I am very excited to come back to Randolph-Macon," said Myers.  "President Lindgren, Provost Franz and Jeff Burns have made a commitment to the tennis program with the new first-class tennis facility.  It is my short-term goal to make R-MC a force in the ODAC and to present a more diversified and fulfilling tennis program as I experienced at R-MC as a student athlete."

A certified tennis professional by the USPTA, Myers is currently ranked #15 in the United States in Men's 35 Singles and he will participate in USTA local, sectional and national tournaments around the country.

In 2011, Myers  finished the year ranked No. 1 in the USTA Philadelphia Section, No. 2 in the Middle State Section and No. 15 in the United States in Men's 35 singles. He has been selected to represent the Middle States in the Talbert Cup three times (2007, 2007 and 2011), and has been the training partner for WTA player Casey Robinson.

He recently collected victories at the 2012 Sportime Randalls Island February Adult Championship, 2011 Courtside Adult Classic, 2011 Royal Sims Tennis Classic, 2011 Friends of Chamounix Summer Classic and the 2011 Straub Brewery Clay Court Championship.
