ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon Men's Tennis scored a 9-0 victory over the visiting UMass-Boston Beacons Wednesday afternoon. The win pushes R-MC to 3-1 on the season while the Beacons fall to 0-3.
The doubles #1 duo of senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) and freshman Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) beat the Beacons' Miguel Beltran and Austin De Lasse 8-2. The duo is now 2-2 this season.
Doubles #2 squad of sophomore Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) and freshman Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York) blanked their opponents Guang Huang and Onkgopotdr Mokoka 8-0. The pair is now 3-1 on the season, all from the #2 doubles slot. Doubles #3 pair, juniors Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Sprinfield) and Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) also won by the score of 8-2. They are also 2-2 this season.
De Lasse and Haines went head-to-head in #1 singles – a match that went deep into each set. Haines won the first set with a tiebreak 7-6 before completing the second set with a 7-5 victory. Haines is now 2-2 in singles on the season, all from the #1 spot.
Sarver, the reigning ODAC Athlete of the Week, faced Beltran in #2 singles, winning handedly 6-1, 6-0. It was his third win of the season, all in the #2 spot.
Hein faced Mokoka in #3 singles, with Hein coming out victorious 6-3, 6-1. Hein is now 3-1 in his first season of play. Carter also took care of his opponent, Tin Tran, 6-1, 6-1 in #4 Singles.
Rounding out the R-MC lineup were Moulton, winning 6-0, 6-2 and Berry winning 6-0 and 6-1 in #5 and #6 singles respectively.
Randolph-Macon Men's Tennis has scheduled a match with Pikeville University tomorrow at 4:00 PM. The team will be back in action on Sunday as well, taking on conference opponent Shenandoah, alongside the women's team.
