ASHLAND, Va. – The Randolph-Macon Men's Tennis scored a 9-0 victory over Shenandoah in conference action Sunday at the Banks Tennis Center. Reigning Old Dominion Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, sophomore Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) and senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) each allowed just two games to their respective opponents. It was the team's second Old Dominion Athletic Conference contest, pushing the team's record to 5-1 and 1-1 in the ODAC.
Doubles #1, Carter and partner freshman Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) scored an 8-5 victory over their Hornet opponents, Matt Hwang and Darian Diaz. The duo is now 3-3 on the season.
#2 duo of Sarver and freshman Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York) moved to 5-1 on the season with an 8-2 win over their opponents Bryan Harris and Zach Frack. #3 doubles pairing of juniors Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Sprinfield) and Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) over Shenandoah's Brett Dubin and Evan Rosenberg 8-3. The pair are 3-2 this season.
In the singles competition, R-MC had control from Nos. 1-6. Haines won 6-2, 6-2 over Dubin in #1 singles, pushing him to 3-2 this season. Sarver allowed just a single game to his opponent in each of his sets, moving to 4-2 this season.
In #3 Singles, Hein defeated Diaz 6-2, 6-1. Hein is also 4-2 this season, as is Carter. Carter defeated his opponent, Frack, 6-0, 6-2.
In the final two singles matches, Moulton defeated Rosenberg 6-2, 6-2, while Berry defeated Kyler Apgar 6-1, 6-4.
R-MC is set for a match with Centre on Thursday at 3:30 PM.
