ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon men's tennis downed Roanoke 8-1 Saturday afternoon at the Banks Tennis Center in Ashland. R-MC is now 8-5 on the season and 4-3 in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference while Roanoke fell to 1-13 overall and 1-8 in the conference.
In #1 doubles play, senior Baxter Carter (Richmond, Va. / St. Christopher's School) and freshman Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) lost to Jose Alvarado and Jack Fishwick 8-3 in doubles play. The two are now 5-9 in doubles play, all in #1 doubles.
#2 Doubles duo of sophomore Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) and freshman Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York) won their ninth match of the year, all at #2 doubles. The duo defeated Roanoke's Jack Doriss and Alson Martin.
In singles, R-MC got another pair of forfeits. Berry won #5 singles and sophomore Jack Aprahamian (Richmond, Va. / Trinity) won #6 singles be default as Roanoke did not have a player.
With the 4-1 lead, R-MC needed just one singles win to secure the match victory – but they got all four matches played.
Haines defeated Alvarado 6-3, 6-2 in #1 singles. Haines is now 5-6 on the season.
In #2 singles, Sarver defeated Fishwick 6-1, 6-2 to gain his eighth win of the season.
#3 singles player Hein defeated Doriss 6-4, 6-3 to also win his eighth match of 2018.
Lastly, #4 singles player Carter secured a victory over Martin 6-0, 3-6, 7-6 (7-3).
Randolph-Macon will face Hampden-Sydney tomorrow at 1:00 PM.
