Men’s Tennis Sweeps E&H In Weather-Shortened Match

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon Men's Tennis got six straight wins in singles play Sunday morning as the Yellow Jackets defeated the Emory & Henry Wasps 6-0. The teams did not play double competition due to poor court conditions.

In No. 1 Singles play, junior Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) got the 6-2, 6-1 victory over his opponent Brandon McGuire. Sarver went 10-5 last season.

In No. 2 Singles, senior Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) defeated Archer Marlow 6-1, 6-0. Haines is returning from last season, where he posted a 5-10 mark.

In No. 3 Singles, sophomore Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) defeated Dalton Shipley without ceding a single game to his opponent, winning 6-0, 6-0. Hein is returning after going 8-9 last season, including 8-6 in the No. 3 slot.

In No. 4 Singles, senior Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) won his match against Cooper Garrett, winning 6-1, 6-0. Berry was 9-2 last season, including 2-0 in the No. 4 spot.

Freshman Ryan Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial High School) made his collegiate debut at No. 5 Singles, winning in straight sets as well, going 6-0, 6-0 against his opponent Andrew McClung.

Junior Jack Aprahamian (Richmond, Va. / Trinity) rounded out the order, beating Henry Quesenberry 6-0, 6-1. Aprahamian was 4-3 last season.

The Yellow Jackets return to the court on Sunday, March 10 as the team travels to Guilford for a 2:00 PM match.
