Berry, Recarte Get Resounding Wins At Roanoke

SALEM, Va. – Randolph-Macon senior Shane Berry (Midlothian, Va. / James River) and sophomore Dani Recarte (Madrid, Spain / Wakefield School) earned strong wins against their Roanoke College opponents as Randolph-Macon Men's Tennis defeated the Maroons Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets took to the courts after a slew of cancelations and postponements from poor weather early on this season.

How It Happened

  • In the Yellow Jackets' first doubles action of the season, R-MC went 2-1.
  • No. 1 Doubles pairing of junior Grant Sarver (Richmond, Va. / Mills Godwin) and freshman Ryan Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial High School) fell to Roanoke's Grayson White and Jack Fishwick 8-4.
  • Returning duo of Berry and senior Jacob Haines (Springfield, Va. / West Springfield) played at No. 2 Doubles, where they defeated Jack Doriss and Thomas Hodges 8-6.
  • At No. 3 Doubles, sophomores Alex Hein (Windermere, Fla. / Windermere Preparatory School) and Erik Moulton (Yorktown, Va. / York) won against Alston Martin and Michael Morrell 8-2.
  • Sarver tallied his redemption in No. 1 Singles as he took the match against White 6-3, 6-2.
  • Fishwick bested Haines at No. 2 Singles, winning 6-0, 6-3.
  • But R-MC won the rest of the lineup, with Hein, Berry, Aud and Recarte winning at their respective positions.
  • Hein defeated Doriss at No. 3 Singles, but needed a third set to do so. The pairing played the full third set, with Hein dropping set one 3-6, but winning sets two and three 7-5 and 6-3.
  • Berry had No. 4 Singles locked up, winning 6-0, 6-1 against Hodges.
  • In No. 5 Singles, Aud also needed a third set to score the match victory. He dropped the first set to Martin 2-6, but won set two 6-0 and closed the win with a 6-4 final in set three.
  • Recarte swept Morell at No. 6 Singles, winning 6-0, 6-0.
