Jones Hits 4th Home Run of the Season, #15 R-MC Splits with Guilford

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The #15 R-MC softball team split a double-header with Guilford on Saturday afternoon. R-MC won game won by a score of 8-3, then fell to the Quakers 9-1 in game two.

Randolph-Macon is now 19-3 on the season with a 4-2 ODAC record. The Quakers are now 22-8 and 7-3 in the ODAC.

In game one, R-MC trailed 2-0 after the first inning but would score seven unanswered runs to take control of the contest.

After a three run inning in the top of the second, R-MC again scored three runs in the third. Junior Harley Jones (Brodnax, Va./ Brunswick) hit a two-run home run to increase the score to 5-0. That was Jones' fourth home run of the season. The Yellow Jackets would add a third run from freshman Sam Scifres (Midlothian, Va./ Clover Hill).

Freshman catcher Sami Davidson (Stafford, Va./ Brooke Point) then hit a single and sent sophomore Casey Abernethy (Prince George, Va./ Prince George) to home plate in the fifth. Davidson then sent Abernethy to home plate the second time from a sacrifice fly in the seventh inning. Davidson had two hits and four rbi in game one.

Sophomore pitcher Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./ Patrick Henry) earned her 12th victory of the season, throwing six strikeouts. Whittemore is 12-0 this season.

In game two, sophomore Kerstin Roth (Yorktown, Va./ Grafton) recorded one hit and one run in the game. 

Recording hits in game two were: Junior Skylar Toth (Midlothian, Va./ Clover Hill), sophomore Diane McDaniel (Fauquier, Va./ Liberty) and junior Brandi Mulvena (Farnham, Va./ Rappahannock). 

R-MC will be back in action on Sunday with a double-header against Emory & Henry at 1 p.m.
