SALEM, Va. – The #2 R-MC softball team was eliminated from the ODAC softball tournament with a narrow 2-1 defeat to #4 Emory & Henry. R-MC went 2-2 in the tournament with wins over EMU and Roanoke.
Randolph-Macon will have to wait till Monday, May 8 at 1 p.m. to see if it will receive an at-large bid for the NCAA Regionals. The selection show will also announce the regional host sites.
The Wasps scored the winning two runs in the top of the second inning. R-MC would pull one run back in the bottom of the second through freshman Shelby Hill (Mechanicsville, Va./ St. Margaret's). Hill reached base on a walk, then stole second base. Freshman Sami Davidson (Stafford, Va./ Brooke Point) stepped up to the plate with two outs and hit a single to right field, sending Hill to home.
R-MC and E&H played out the next five innings without recording any runs.
Sophomore Savannah Wood (Tappahannock, Va./ Essex) had two hits in three at bats for the Jackets, including a double in the first inning.
R-MC has amassed 33 wins this season, the second best in program history behind a 34-9 2013 season. The Yellow Jackets are currently ranked #16 in the nation by the NCAA and are ranked fourth in the Atlantic region by the NCAA.
#4 Emory & Henry will play #1 Virginia Wesleyan in the ODAC Championship on Sunday.
