Junior pitcher Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va. / Patrick Henry) dominated the afternoon's first game. Whittemore struck out 12 Wasp batters, while also not allowing a walk and ceding just four hits.

R-MC struck first in the second game as well.
In the second inning, sophomore Shelby Hill (Mechanicsville, Va. / St. Margaret's) reached first on an error, then was bunted around to second by Whittemore, who was safe on the play as well. Hill stole third, giving runners on the corners to R-MC. Sanderford took advantage with a hit to left center, scoring Hill and moving Whittemore to third. Freshman Madie Rhoads (Portsmouth, Va. / Nansemond River) was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Abernethy drew a walk and got credited for the RBI and Whittemore scored. The Wasps got three straight outs to end the inning, though the damage was done.
But the Wasps found the long ball in the third inning. Courtney Herron and Caley Hodge both sent balls over the fence with runners on to give the Wasps a 5-2 lead.
The Wasps got another score via home run in the fifth inning off the bat of Caitlyn Yates.
R-MC answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth as Whittemore walked with the bases loaded, sending sophomore Sami Davidson (Stafford, Va. / Brooke Point) home.
Freshman Kayley Scott (Henrico, Va. / Lee-Davis) got a pair of strikeouts in the top of the sixth to give R-MC another chance at the plate. The opportunity was taken by the Yellow Jackets, and specifically Jones, the lone senior of the Class of 2018 on Senior Day. With two on and two outs, Jones sent a home run over the left field fence, scoring three and tying the game at 6-6.
Both teams worked through the seventh and eighth innings without scoring a runner, including the International Tie-Break runner placed at second in the eighth inning.
Scott got a pair of Wasps to strike out in the top of the ninth, offering another opportunity to R-MC in the bottom of the inning.
With Davidson at second and one out, Hill doubled to walk the Yellow Jackets off with the 7-6 win. It was Hill's first hit of the game.
In game two, Whittemore was 2-3 with an RBI and Sanderford was 1-3 with an RBI. Jones went 2-5 with 3 RBIs as well.
