SALEM, Va. – Second-seeded Randolph-Macon advanced to the winner's bracket and will face third-seeded Lynchburg tonight at 7:00 PM in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference softball tournament in Salem, Va. R-MC defeated seventh-seeded Randolph 3-0 for the third time this week.

R-MC got out on top in the first inning and never looked back. Juniors Kerstin Roth (Yorktown, Va. / Grafton), Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va. / Patrick Henry) and Savannah Wood (Tappahannock, Va. / Essex) all started with a single. Senior Harley Jones (Brodnax, Va. / Brunswick) batted Roth in with a sacrifice fly to center field. Whittemore then scored on a throwing error by Randolph's catcher during sophomore Sami Davidson's at-bat.
The two runs remained all that were on the board for either team until the fifth inning. After Roth hit another singled to lead off the inning, she stole second base. Whittemore singled as well, moving Roth to third. Though Whittemore was thrown out on a steal attempt, Wood was able to bring Roth home on a double to left field. The run closed scoring on the game as R-MC won 3-0.
Randolph-Macon outhit Randolph 10-5 in the matchup. Roth, Whittemore, Wood and sophomore Taylor Sanderford (Mechanicsville, Va. / Atlee) all went 2-3 on the day.
Freshman pitcher Kayley Scott pitched the complete game shutout, striking out four and walking just one.
Randolph-Macon will face #3 Lynchburg at 7:00 PM in Game 8 of the ODAC Tournament. The other winner's bracket game is #8 Guilford against #5 Emory & Henry. In the loser's bracket, #1 Virginia Wesleyan will face #4 Roanoke after VWU lost to Guilford and Roanoke lost to E&H. #6 Eastern Mennonite (which lost to Lynchburg) will face #7 Randolph in the second game in the loser's bracket.
