SALEM, Va. – Second-seeded Randolph-Macon split its first day at the Old Dominion Athletic Conference Tournament as it beat Randolph 3-0 in the first round, but fell to Lynchburg in the second round 4-0.
Randolph-Macon now moves to the loser's bracket and will face tournament seed and nationally-ranked No. 1 Virginia Wesleyan tomorrow at 11:00 AM. Randolph-Macon is ranked fourth in the nation in the NFCA National Top 25 poll.

R-MC got out on top in the first inning and never looked back. Juniors Kerstin Roth (Yorktown, Va. / Grafton), Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va. / Patrick Henry) and Savannah Wood (Tappahannock, Va. / Essex) all started with a single. Senior Harley Jones (Brodnax, Va. / Brunswick) batted Roth in with a sacrifice fly to center field. Whittemore then scored on a throwing error by Randolph's catcher during sophomore Sami Davidson's at-bat.
The two runs remained all that were on the board for either team until the fifth inning. After Roth hit another singled to lead off the inning, she stole second base. Whittemore singled as well, moving Roth to third. Though Whittemore was thrown out on a steal attempt, Wood was able to bring Roth home on a double to left field. The run closed scoring on the game as R-MC won 3-0.
Randolph-Macon outhit Randolph 10-5 in the matchup. Roth, Whittemore, Wood and sophomore Taylor Sanderford (Mechanicsville, Va. / Atlee) all went 2-3 on the day.
Freshman pitcher Kayley Scott pitched the complete game shutout, striking out four and walking just one.

Freshman Madie Rhoads (Portsmouth, Va. / Nansemond River) struck out seven batters but gave up five hits and four earned runs in her first loss of the season and just R-MC's fourth loss of the season. One of the other losses came at the hands of the Hornets back on March 31.
Roth was 2-3 in the game and Hill hit a double, but no runs came around for the Yellow Jackets.
Lynchburg got on the board in the second inning as a ground out led to a run coming home. Then, LC got a homer from junior Taylor Mabry with two runners aboard in the fifth. The score finalized the LC win 4-0.
Lynchburg will meet Emory & Henry in the final game of the Winner's Bracket before the ODAC Championship.
