ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon senior Candace Whittemore (Montpelier, Va./Patrick Henry) has been named an honorable mention All-American by Fastpitch News.
Whittemore recently wrapped up a stellar career, in which she claimed several Randolph-Macon program records, including for career wins, strikeouts and earned run average. She was named the Most Outstanding Pitcher of the Newport News Super Regional and the Most Outstanding Player of the Ewing, N.J. Regional. She also earned recognition from the Old Dominion Athletic Conference in the ODAC Tournament with an All-Tournament Team selection, while the ODAC coaches recognized her for her work all season with an All-ODAC Second Team pick. The National Fastpitch Coaches Association honored Whittemore with a All-South Region Third Team selection for her work this year as well. She collected an ODAC Pitcher of the Week honor as well as a national Pitcher of the Week honor from the NFCA. She spent much of the season on the Schutt Sports/NFCA Division III National Player of the Year watchlist.
Randolph-Macon closed out the 2019 season last month. The Yellow Jackets finished higher in the final NFCA rankings than they ever had before, finishing eighth overall in the nation. R-MC traveled to its first Division III National Championship series and won an NCAA Super Regional for the first time.
