ASHLAND, VA – In a game that featured 14 ties, two Khajae Hester free-throws proved to be the difference in a 70-69 Randolph-Macon win over Shenandoah.
With 20 seconds left on the clock in the second-half, Sarah Parsons drained a free-throw to give the Yellow Jackets a two point lead.
On the Hornets ensuing possession, SU guard Sara D'Amico converted a three-point play with 13 seconds to go in the game to bring the Hornets lead back to one.
With seven seconds left on the clock, Hester was fouled and knocked down both shots from the charity stripe to put R-MC out in front 70-69.
The Hornets had a chance to win the game, but an Ashley McGhee layup with one second left to play fell just short.
The Yellow Jackets were led by Parsons, posting a season high 18 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Caroline Young and Lauren Vugteveen each chipped in nine points. Young also pulled in a team-high eight rebounds. Hester recorded a game-high six assists on the night.
SU forward, Imani Heggins led the Hornets offensively with 15 points. D'Amico (12), Nicole Gilbertson (10) and Corin Scott (11) joined Heggins in double-figures, combining for 33 points. Crystal Petrus posted the only double-double of the game, finishing with 10 points and 10 rebounds.
The Yellow Jackets will be back in action Saturday when they travel to Emory, VA to take on Emory & Henry College. Tip-off is scheduled for a 4:00 p.m. start.
