Intermill Scores 15 as R-MC Women's Basketball Falls to #2 Amherst

ASHLAND, Va. – Senior Taylor Intermill (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) tallied 15 points and dished out three assists as the Randolph-Macon women's basketball team dropped an 83-59 decision to second-ranked Amherst Saturday evening in Crenshaw Gymnasium.

Freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./Halifax Academy) added 10 points and pulled down nine rebounds for the Yellow Jackets (3-2). It was the first time she did not record a double-double this season.

After Amherst scored the first bucket of the game, Intermill nailed a three-pointer to give the Yellow Jackets a 3-2 lead. AC used a 10-4 run to take a 12-7 lead with 3:45 left in the first quarter. A trey by junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./Powhatan) capped a 7-0 spurt for R-MC as the Yellow Jackets went up 14-12 with 1:45 remaining in the period. AC tallied four points before Williams had a layup with three seconds left to knot the score at 16-16. Jaimie Renner hit a three-quarter court shot at the buzzer as AC lead 19-16 after one.

AC recorded the first eight points of the second quarter to take a 27-16 lead with 8:37 left in the period. The visitors were up 36-23 midway through the quarter before a Berry trey capped a 6-0 run for the Yellow Jackets as R-MC cut the deficit to seven at 36-29. AC closed the half on an 11-7 run to lead 47-36 at intermission. Intermill paced the Yellow Jackets with 11 points in the first half, while Williams registered nine points and five rebounds.

Amherst dominated in the third quarter, outscoring R-MC 22-6 to take a 69-42 advantage. R-MC outscored AC 17-14 in the final period as the game ended 83-59.

Berry finished with nine points and five boards, while junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./Patrick Henry) had four points and eight rebounds for the Yellow Jackets.

Ali Doswell (Richmond, Va./St. Catherine's) of Amherst led all scorers with 18 points.

Randolph-Macon returns to ODAC play on Thursday, Dec. 8 at 7 p.m. at Roanoke.
