GREENSBORO, N.C. – The R-MC women's basketball team was defeated by Guilford 72-59 on Saturday afternoon. Three R-MC players scored in double digits with junior Amber Lee (Rockville, Va./ Patrick Henry) with 17, freshman Kelly Williams (Garysburg, N.C./ Halifax Academy) with 16 and junior Marisha Berry (Powhatan, Va./ Powhatan) scoring 15.
In the first quarter, the Quakers led 12-7 before the Yellow Jackets would go on a 9-4 run with buckets from Berry and Lee to even the score at 16. Lee went 3 of 4 in the first for six points.
Guilford then took a 38-28 halftime lead through a 22-12 second quarter.
The Yellow Jackets (8-6, 3-3 ODAC) were able to trade buckets with the Quakers (12-2, 5-1 ODAC) in the third period but were unable to cut the lead down in the second half.
R-MC shot 43 percent from the field and 40 percent from the three-point line. Berry, who scored 15 points, went 3 for 6 from three. She also had three rebounds, two steals and two assists.
Lee had an outstanding game scoring a team-high 17 points, grabbing nine rebounds and adding four blocks, two steals and two assists.
Williams picked up her 11th double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 rebounds. She also recorded two assists, two steals and a block.
R-MC scored 36 points in the paint compared to 26 for Guilford. R-MC also held the advantage on fast break points scoring 10 to the hosts' six.
The Yellow Jackets return to Crenshaw Gymnasium for an ODAC matchup versus Shenandoah on Tuesday, January 17 at 7 p.m.
