LaHaye Announces 2019-2020 Women's Basketball Slate

Basketball team

ASHLAND, Va. – Randolph-Macon Women's Basketball head coach Carroll LaHaye announced the upcoming season's schedule Tuesday morning. The schedule includes the traditional Old Dominion Athletic Conference calendar as well as a pair of early-season tournaments and back-to-back contests against in-state rivals Mary Washington and Christopher Newport.

"Each year when I have a chance to sit down and look at our schedule, I often think, 'who put that schedule together' especially given the tough ODAC schedule that is given to us," LaHaye said. "However, since we have never been ones to shy away from competition to help us get better, my thoughts quickly turn to preparing us for the grueling days ahead.  This year is no different.  With our returning players and the new additions, we are looking forward to representing Randolph-Macon as we should."

The season kicks off in traditional fashion with the R-MC Tip-Off Classic presented by Riesbeck Contracting. The Yellow Jackets will face Vermont Tech and William Peace in the first weekend of play, which this year will take place on Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. The Eastern Mennonite Royals will play opposite the Yellow Jackets in the Classic.

The Yellow Jackets will then travel to another Classic – this one the Emory & Henry edition in Emory, Va. There, R-MC will face Pfeiffer and Oglethorpe, the latter of which left last season as a ranked team in the South Region and an NCAA Tournament participant. The road does not get easier for the Yellow Jackets from there as R-MC has to make two early road trips to Washington and Lee and Roanoke to finish out November.

December will be fast and furious for R-MC. The Yellow Jackets will host Eastern Mennonite before facing the two in-state rivals, all in a five-day span. From there though, R-MC will break for finals and the holidays and return in January.

The New Year begins with a home tilt with Lynchburg on the second day of the year. From there, the Yellow Jackets go on a two-game ODAC road trip to Hollins and Bridgewater. R-MC returns home on Saturday, January 11 against last year's regular season winner Guilford. In the last half of January, R-MC will have home tilts against Roanoke, Hollins and Virginia Wesleyan while also traveling to Randolph and Eastern Mennonite. The game against Hollins will mark Back To The Hive for 2020.

On the first day of February, R-MC will travel to Emory & Henry for what is always a hotly contested matchup and the only time the Yellow Jackets will meet the Wasps in the regular season this year. A non-conference trip to St. Mary's will break up ODAC play on February 4, before R-MC returns home for two straight home games against W&L and Randolph. R-MC finishes out the final week of the regular season at Ferrum and Lynchburg, with a home game sandwiched in between the two against 2019 ODAC Champion Shenandoah. The game against the Hornets will mark Senior Day for R-MC.

R-MC returns 11 players from last season and will welcome three freshmen as well. This season will mark Coach LaHaye's 38th at Randolph-Macon. The team will be in the hunt for its tenth ODAC Championship.
