ASHLAND, Va. - Junior Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) tallied seven goals and junior Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) recorded seven assists to lead the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team past 19th-ranked St. Mary's 11-7 Wednesday afternoon at Day Field.
Senior goalkeeper Allie Walker (Towson, Md./Mercy) registered 16 saves in her first start of the season for the Yellow Jackets (2-1).
The Seahawks (3-3) scored the first three goals of the game before the Yellow Jackets scored the final four goals of the first half in the last 10 minutes, all assisted by Lightfoot. Hsieh got R-MC on the board with 9:39 left. Senior Susie Snee (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) scored with 4:40 remaining. Hsieh added a pair in the final minute of the half to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-3 advantage at intermission, a lead they would not relinquish. Walker had seven saves in the first period.
Sophomore Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) had the first two goals of the second half as the Yellow Jackets extended their lead to 6-3. SMC would net three of the next four goals to pull within one at 7-6. Snee had a player-up goal with 9:11 left to make it 8-6. Hsieh scored three times over the next seven minutes for an 11-6 lead before a late Seahawk goal made the final 11-7.
Snee scored twice and had three draw controls. Jones had two draw controls, three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Walker and senior Laney Dee (Norfolk, Va./Bishop Sullivan) also had three ground balls. Sophomore Abby Roth (Bayville, N.J./Donovan Catholic) had a pair of caused turnovers.
Randolph-Macon hits the road for a Saturday contest at Goucher at 2 p.m.
