OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Senior Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) scored a season-high seven goals as the Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team dropped a 12-11 decision at Stevenson on Saturday afternoon.
The Yellow Jackets dropped to 1-2, while the Mustangs moved to 1-3.
Hsieh scored two of the first three goals of the game as R-MC took an early 2-1 lead. Stevenson tallied four straight to take a 5-2 lead. Freshman Bella Samper (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) and Hsieh both scored as the Yellow Jackets pulled within one at 5-4 with 5:15 left in the first half. The Mustangs recorded the final goal of the half and took a 6-4 lead at the break.
Stevenson scored the first two goals of the second half before Samper had her second score to make it 8-5 with 24:25 remaining in the second half. After another Mustang goal, Hsieh scored twice and freshman Kaylyn Hewes (Linthicum, Md./North County) added one as R-MC pulled within one at 9-8 with 19:25 remaining. A Stevenson score made it 10-8 before junior Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) scored her first goal of the game and Hsieh added her final two to give the Yellow Jackets an 11-10 advantage with 4:50 left. The Mustangs would record the final two goals of the game to pull out the 12-11 victory.
Senior Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) paced R-MC with four assists. Hewes had seven draw controls, while Hsieh chipped in five draw controls.
Sophomore Elicia Wells (Richmond, Va./Trinity) had seven saves and four ground balls for the Yellow Jackets.
Randolph-Macon returns home on Wednesday, March 7 for a 7 p.m. contest with New England College on Day Field.
