LEXINGTON, Va. - Junior Lexi Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) and freshman Kaylyn Hewes (Linthicum, Md./North County) both scored a pair of goals as the second-seeded Randolph-Macon women's lacrosse team fell 14-7 to top-seeded and ninth-ranked Washington and Lee Sunday afternoon in the championship game of the ODAC Tournament.

The Yellow Jackets (11-7) played in their fourth consecutive ODAC title game and had their eight-game win streak snapped. The Generals (15-4) earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

The R-MC defense was stellar at the start. Following a turnover, Lexi Jones scored 47 seconds into the game on an assist by sophomore Mary Castle (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) to give the Yellow Jackets a 1-0 lead. W&L was held scoreless until the 16:10 mark, when the Generals tied the game at 1-1. Castle scored just over a minute later, as R-MC took a 2-1 advantage midway through the first half. W&L would score seven of the next eight goals over the final 11 minutes of the period, taking an 8-3 lead at intermission. Hewes scored on a free position shot for the lone goal in that stretch for the Yellow Jackets. The teams split 12 draw controls in the first half. Junior Hannah Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County) had four of the six for R-MC. The Yellow Jacket defense caused eight turnovers in the first period, with juniors Rachel Jones (Chestertown, Md./Kent County), Abby Roth (Bayville, N.J./Donovan Catholic) and Olivia Mott (Dayton, Md./River Hill) each recording two. Sophomore Elicia Wells (Richmond, Va./Trinity) registered six saves in the first half.

The defense and the weather dominated most of the second half, as much of the period was played in pouring rain. W&L scored the first four goals of the second half before Hewes scored on an assist by freshman Bella Samper (Spring, Texas/Klein Oak) to make it 12-4 with 7:11 remaining. Play was suspended at that point due to lightning, and the venue was changed to the turf at Wilson Field due to unplayable conditions at Watt Field. The Generals scored the first goal after play resumed before senior Alex Lightfoot (Fairfax, Va./WT Woodson) found the net on an assist by senior Alicia Hsieh (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) to make it 13-5 with six minutes left. After a General goal, Lexi Jones scored on another assist by Hsieh as the score moved to 14-6 with 4:17 remaining. Hannah Jones added a free position goal with 4:01 left to make it 14-7.

R-MC held a 15-8 advantage in draw controls, including 9-2 in the second half. Hannah Jones finished with nine draw controls, while Hsieh added four and Hewes snagged two.

Wells had five ground balls, while Hsieh and Rachel Jones both grabbed three. Rachel Jones posted four caused turnovers, while Hsieh, Alvanos, Roth and Mott each had two.

Wells recorded nine saves in the contest.

Roth, Mott and Hewes were named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team.
