VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - Sophomore Gabby Nelson (Clover, Va./Halifax County) scored her third goal of the season as the Randolph-Macon women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 ODAC contest at Virginia Wesleyan Wednesday evening.
The Marlins (6-5-1, 2-1 ODAC) broke the scoreless tie with a goal in the 21st minute to take the early lead. The Yellow Jackets (5-4-1, 2-2 ODAC) would answer in the 35th minute, as Nelson scored on an assist by freshman Casey Kent (Fairfax, Va./Fairfax) to level the score at 1-1. It was the second assist of the season for Kent.
VWU would break the deadlock with a goal in the 62nd minute to give the home team a 2-1 advantage.
The Marlins held a slim 12-11 edge in shots. Kent led R-MC with six shots, including three on goal. Nelson had three shots, of which two were on goal.
Sophomore Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) had seven saves, with four in the first half and three in the second half.
Randolph-Macon remains on the road, traveling to Bridgewater on Saturday, Oct. 7 for an 11 a.m. ODAC match.
