SALEM, Va. – Sophomore goalkeeper Christina Newman (Virginia Beach, Va/Kempsville) saved five shots, but two of #3 Roanoke's shots snuck by while the #6 Randolph-Macon offense never could get going as the Yellow Jacket's season ends at the hands of the Maroons 2-0 on Wednesday night.
The first Roanoke goal was scored in the 8th minute as a deflected cross made it into the hands of RC's Kathryn Van Orden, who got the second chance opportunity pushed through. Roanoke added a second goal in the 20th minute with a long shot that snuck in under the bar.
Randolph-Macon had three shots in the first half, with two coming from freshman Casey Kent (Fairfax, Va/Fairfax) while one more was added from senior Kasey Martino (Centreville, Va/Centreville). Each had a single shot on goal. They were the only shots of the match for R-MC, while Roanoke tried 12 shots, including nine in the first half.
Roanoke had the 4-3 advantage in corner kicks as well. All of the Yellow Jackets' came in the second half.
