R-MC Women’s Tennis Wins Season Opener vs. St. Mary’s

ASHLAND, Va.-Juniors Melissa Tomlin (Prince George, Va. / Prince George) and Kelsie Grice (Hoover, Al. / Charlotte County Day) led the Yellow Jackets to a 7-2 win over St. Mary's on Saturday afternoon.

Tomlin and Grice both registered wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles positions respectively for R-MC (1-0) and teamed up at No. 3 doubles with an 8-2 victory.

In other doubles action, junior Caitlin Delmas (Asheville, N.C. / K-12 Int. Academy) and sophomore Sid Corrigan (South Bend, IN / Saint Joseph's) also added a victory, with an 8-4 win over Melissa Barall and Anna Passanitti of the Seahawks (1-2).

In singles action, R-MC won five of six matches. Junior Molly Jesseman (Williamsburg, Va. / Warhill) scored a win at No. 6 singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Liza Moore of St. Mary's. Junior Toni McDonald (Richmond, Va. / Varina) also won with ease with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Katie Chase at the No. 5 position. Freshman Gaby Tersingi (Yorktown, Va. / York) added the fifth singles win for the Yellow Jackets, with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Emily Rost at the No. 4 position.

Randolph-Macon returns to action at the Banks Tennis Center on Saturday, March 5 for an ODAC matchup with Guilford. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
