Women’s Tennis Tops Vixens

SWEET BRIAR, Va. – Randolph-Macon Women's Tennis won up and down the lineup, topping the Sweet Briar Vixens 7-2 Tuesday afternoon at the Gymnasium Tennis Courts in Sweet Briar.  Randolph-Macon advances to 6-3 on the season and 4-1 in the ODAC while SBC drops to 5-10 on the season and 1-7 in the ODAC.

Randolph-Macon found wins at #2 and #3 doubles. Junior Gaby Tersigni (Yorktown, Va. / York)  and freshman Olivia Uzer (McLean, Va. / Langley) continued to dominate in the #2 spot, winning their sixth match of the season over Anna Colvin and Samantha Yew 8-5.

Meantime, the #3 pair of senior Sarah Hinson (Nashville, N.C. / Northern Nash) and sophomore Landon Aud (Fishersville, Va. / Wilson Memorial) were stellar in their defeat of Lexi Culley and Lacey Tucker, winning the most decisive doubles victory of the afternoon with the 8-1 decision.

Sweet Briar did get the better of R-MC's #1 duo of junior Stephanie Yeager (Fairfax, Va. / Robinson Secondary) and Kristin Dantzler (Williamsburg, Va. / York). The #1 grouping were defeated 8-6 in the doubles competition's top billing.

Yeager also ran into trouble during #2 singles. She won the first set 6-0. But after losing the second set 1-6, she retired during the third and final set to give Lukanuski the win.

But the remainder of the Randolph-Macon lineup won their singles competitions.

#1 single competitor Tersigni handled Wandling with a 6-2, 6-3 win. It marked Tersigni's sixth win of the season.

#3 singles player Dantzler won 6-2, 6-1 over Yew to secure her seventh win of 2018. Dantzler is 6-2 overall in #3 singles.

Uzer and Colvin had one of the closer matches of the afternoon in #4 singles, but Uzer was able to come out on top with the 6-3, 6-2 win. Uzer also secured her sixth win of the year.

In #5 singles, Aud won 6-1, 6-2 over Culley. Aud is now 7-2 on the season, including 5-2 in #5 singles.

In her season debut at #6 singles, sophomore Macy Lee Johnson (Henderson, N.C. / Kerr-Vance Academy) secured a win over Tucker 6-2, 6-1.

Randolph-Macon is back in action tomorrow against Virginia Wesleyan. They will be joined at the Banks Tennis Center by the men's team, who will be playing Southern Virginia. Both matches begin at 4:00 PM.
