R-MC Volleyball to Face Stevenson in NCAA Tourney

ASHLAND, Va.—The Randolph-Macon Yellow Jackets will face Stevenson in the first round of the 2015 NCAA Volleyball Tournament.

Stockton (30-4), located in Galloway, N.J., will host the NCAA regional. Other first round matchups in the Stockton Regional include: Christopher Newport (29-2) vs. Hunter (23-13), Cabrini (25-9) vs. Eastern (28-7), and the Ospreys (30-4) vs. Gallaudet (23-12).

R-MC will face Stevenson at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13. The Second and Third Rounds will be played on Nov. 14 and 15, respectively. 

R-MC faced seven teams in the field: Mary Washington (23-7), Wittenberg (24-2), Clarkson (27-8), Emory (32-3), Berry (24-7), Wartburg (30-5) and Christopher Newport (29-2). The Yellow Jackets posted wins over Mary Washington and Clarkson in the regular season.

R-MC has played four common opponents with Stevenson: Mary Washington, St. Mary's, Lebanon Valley and Franklin & Marshall. The Yellow Jackets went 4-0 against the quartet. Stevenson was 3-1, dropping a 3-1 decision to Mary Washington.

Randolph-Macon will make its fifth appearance in the NCAA Tournament and its first since 2012. The Yellow Jackets enjoyed a three-year stretch of consecutive conference titles and NCAA appearances from 2009-11 and received an at-large bid in 2012. R-MC made it to the Sweet Sixteen in 2010.

The Yellow Jackets earned the Old Dominion Athletic Conference's automatic bid after winning the 2015 ODAC Volleyball Championship. Top-seeded R-MC defeated No. 8 Lynchburg 3-0 in the quarterfinals on Wed, Nov. 4 before defeating No. 4 Roanoke 3-0 and No. 2 Virginia Wesleyan 3-1 on Saturday, Nov. 7 to claim R-MC's fourth conference title.

Seniors Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. /Nansemond River) and Katie Rossberg (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) tallied double-doubles in the ODAC championship match. Lowers tallied 27 kills and 17 digs and Rossberg recorded 16 kills and 16 digs.

Lowers and sophomores Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) and Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) were named to the ODAC All-Tournament Team.

The Yellow Jackets claimed several postseason conference awards.

Head Coach Bill Rogers was named ODAC Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season. Rogers is in his 14th season and mentored the Yellow Jackets to a 25-7 overall record and an 11-0 record in ODAC games.

Lowers was named ODAC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season and also received First Team All-ODAC honors. Rossberg and Sallade joined Lowers on the First Team.

Quinn received Second Team All-ODAC accolades.
