Lowers Named AVCA All-American

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. / Nansemond River) was named Third Team All-America by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.

Lowers is the first student-athlete in R-MC volleyball history to receive a spot on the All-American list. Mallory Carter ‘13 received Honorable Mention All-American status in 2011 and 2012.

An All-South Region selection and three-time ODAC Player of the Week this season, Lowers has rewritten the record books. She is Randolph-Macon's all-time leader in kills with 1,455 and has surpassed her own single season record of 492 kills in 2014 with 494 in 2015. Lowers is also eighth on the R-MC all-time blocks list with 249.

Lowers was named ODAC Player of the Year for the second straight season. She received AVCA Player of the Week honors on Nov. 10 for leading R-MC to its fourth conference title. Lowers tallied an impressive 63 kills over three matches in the 2015 ODAC Volleyball Championship. She registered 53 kills with 26 in the semifinal match against Roanoke and 27 winners against Virginia Wesleyan in the championship match.

She leads the ODAC in kills per set at 4.49 and ranks in the Top-Ten in the nation in three categories: points per set (5.14), total kills (494), and kills per set (4.49).

Randolph-Macon will travel to Grand Rapids, MI for the remainder of the NCAA Tournament, Nov. 19-21. The Yellow Jackets will play Carthage (34-7) on Thursday, Nov. 19 at 8 p.m. The semifinals will be played on Fri., Nov. 20 with the championship on Saturday, Nov. 21.
