ATLANTA, Ga.—Senior Katie Rossberg (Crozet, Va. / Western Albemarle) registered 16 kills as the Randolph-Macon women's volleyball team dropped a four-set match to Berry College, who is ranked second in the South Region, Saturday afternoon at the Emory Invitational.
The Yellow Jackets (22-7) dropped the first two sets to Berry (23-6), 27-25 and 25-18, before claiming the third set 25-22 to force an additional set. The Vikings claimed the fourth set 25-17.
The score was tied at 11-all in the first set before Berry used a 5-1 run to hold a 17-12 advantage. The Yellow Jackets countered with an 8-1 spurt to gain a 20-18 lead. The score was tied at 23-all and went into extra points. Berry won the set 27-25.
The Vikings held a 3-0 run and maintained their advantage at 16-12 in the second set. The Yellow Jackets tied the score at 16-16 before Berry claimed the set with a 9-2 spurt.
The score was tied at 8-8 before R-MC used a 5-0 spurt to hold a 13-8 advantage in the third set. The Vikings tied the score at 17-all and again at 19-19. R-MC claimed the set 25-22.
The Vikings held a 5-3 lead before R-MC tied the score at 6-6 in the fourth set. Berry used a 4-0 spurt hold the advantage. Berry maintained the lead at 15-10 and expanded it to 19-11 with a 4-1 run and went on to win the set, 25-17.
Senior Courtney Lowers (Suffolk, Va. / Nansemond River) tallied 13 kills and was named to the Emory Invitational All-Tournament Team.
Sophomore Samantha Sallade (Newport News, Va. / Peninsula Catholic) paced R-MC with 26 digs.
R-MC was led defensively by sophomore Colleen Beaver (Fredericksburg, Va. / Massaponax) with six assisted blocks.
The Yellow Jackets claimed a 3-1 victory over Millsaps earlier in the day.
The Yellow Jackets have concluded regular-season play. R-MC earned the top spot with an 11-0 ODAC record. The pairings will be released on Sunday, Nov. 1.
