ASHLAND, Va. – Women's Volleyball senior Erin Quinn (Morrisville, N.C. / Cardinal Gibbons) has been recognized as an athletic and academic scholar. Quinn was named to the The 2017 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District® Volleyball Team, which recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. Quinn will also appear on the ballot for the national Academic All-American team.
Quinn is studying chemistry at R-MC and holds a GPA of 3.71 as of this year. Quinn appears with eight other district scholar-athletes representing District 5, which encompasses institutions in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Of the eight, seven are from Division III schools in Virginia, including three other Old Dominion Athletic Conference honorees.
This is the seventh year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I) and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III participants, while the College Division Academic All-America® Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
The Academic All-American teams will be announced in December.
