INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After beginning the season ranked eighth in the NCAA Regional Ranking, Randolph-Macon women's volleyball has shot to the four spot in the weekly ranking. The rankings are voted on by a regional committee made up of coaches and administrators and use wins, losses and strength of schedule, among other metrics, to place teams within their respective regions. The rankings play a role in how teams are seeded for the NCAA Tournament.
Randolph-Macon (17-7, 11-1 ODAC) closed its conference season with a 3-0 win against Hollins Wednesday night. In the Old Dominion Athletic Conference, Washington and Lee and Bridgewater are represented in the regional rankings at No. 5 and No. 6 respectively. Above Randolph-Macon is Birmingham-Southern ranked No. 3, Emory ranked No. 2 and Berry ranked No. 1.
Randolph-Macon heads to Atlanta this weekend to face two of those teams, Birmingham-Southern and Emory as well as nationally ranked Thomas More. The Saints are ranked fifth in the country while Emory is also ranked nationally at No. 8. The games against No. 5 Thomas More and No. 8 Emory are on Friday at 12:30 PM and 7:30 PM respectively. R-MC will face Birmingham-Southern at 12:30 PM on Saturday and end the Emory National Invitational with a match against Salem at 3:00 PM.
