With a perfect conference record for the second year in a row, the Yellow Jackets captured the ODAC Regular Season title. On top of winning the regular season, the Yellow Jackets were dominant in the tournament clinching the ODAC Championship without dropping a single set. The program's 5th ODAC title was achieved with three 3-0 victories over Roanoke, Bridgewater, and Washington & Lee. Three Jackets were selected to the ODAC All-Tournament Team including Erinn Quinn, Emily Fitzwater, and Colleen Beaver. With their 5th title in program history, the team made its 6th NCAA Tournament appearance taking on Stevenson in the first round. In a five set thriller, the Jackets defeated Stevenson and advanced to the second round where Mary Washington was victorious.

Several Yellow Jackets received honors on the year. Erin Quinn was named ODAC Player of the Year, All-ODAC First Team, VaSID All-State Second Team, AVCA South Region First Team, AVCA Third Team All-America, ODAC All-Tournament Team, ODAC Player of the Week (10/03). Sophomore outside hitter, Mariah Clark, was named All-ODAC First Team, VaSID All-State First Team, AVCA South Region First Team, ACVCA Honorable Mention All-American, and ODAC Player of the Week (09/26). Samantha Sallade joined Clark on the All-ODAC First Team and was named ACVA South Region Honorable Mention. Freshman outside hitter, Miranda Hall received All-ODAC Third Team and was named ODAC Rookie of the Year. Junior outside hitter, Rebecca McGilvery, was All-ODAC Second Team, NCAA South Region All-Tournament Team, ODAC Player of the Week (10/17).

Led by Bill Rogers, who was named ODAC Coach of the Year and AVCA South Region Coach of the Year, the Jackets finished the 2016 season with a 24-8 overall record.
